Michael Roach's Buddhist Technique: 4 Steps to Achieve Any Goal
Michael Roach is a millionaire Buddhist monk whose mission is to create a world of truly happy people. He is the first Westerner to complete the rigorous 20-year training program in a Tibetan monastery and earn the title of geshe, a master of Tibetan Buddhism.
In his books and lectures, Roach shares insights from ancient Tibetan teachings on how to shape your reality and achieve what you desire. He developed a powerful method known as “karmic management”, based on four simple steps.
The 4 Steps to Achieve Any Goal, According to Michael Roach:
-
Define your goal clearly in one sentence.
Example: “I want to start my own business.” -
Find someone who wants the same thing.
This person becomes your karmic partner. Ask how you can help them move toward their goal. -
Selflessly help that person for at least one hour per week.
Offer your time, skills, support, or knowledge. This “plants the karmic seeds” for your own success. -
Practice “coffee meditation” every night.
Before going to sleep, reflect on how you helped someone that day. Feel joy and gratitude for your actions. Send kind thoughts and positive wishes to your karmic partner. According to Roach, this step nourishes the seeds you’ve planted.
Many people skip or underestimate the fourth step—but Roach insists it’s the most important one. We’re rarely taught to feel joy for our good deeds or to mentally celebrate them, yet this inner recognition is essential for real change.
The core principle: To receive what you want, first help someone else get the same thing.
