Top 5 Apps to Fight Sadness and Low Mood

In autumn, we are more prone to feelings of sadness and melancholy. This is primarily due to physiological reasons: during the fall and winter, the days get shorter and the temperature drops, which directly affects our mood and well-being. There is also a psychological aspect to this state: summer is always associated with sunshine and the sea, while autumn brings rain and slush, a time when nature loses its colors and everything slows down.

There are many ways to “fight” these states. Autumn melancholy and sadness can be transformed into a resource and used, for example, as a stimulus for creativity.

We’ve compiled a list of simple and convenient mobile apps that can help you cope with sadness and low mood.

Top 5 Helpful Mobile Apps:

Headspace
This app was created by a former Buddhist monk from the UK, Andy Puddicombe, with the goal of popularizing meditation.

In “Headspace,” you can choose a meditation program based on your personal preferences, circumstances, and the time you have available. Puddicombe recommends meditating every morning.

Calm
“Calm” is a multifunctional app that consists of three main sections: “Meditation,” “Music,” and “Sleep.”

The “Meditation” and “Music” sections are categorized by goals, while the “Sleep” section offers audio bedtime stories. The free version includes 13 meditation programs, 21 music tracks, and 5 stories.

Moodnotes
This mobile mood journal was developed by psychologists from the company Thriveport, specifically for city dwellers, who, according to the World Health Organization, often suffer from mood swings and depression.

The app sends you questions to assess your mood, track your emotions and feelings, and then provides recommendations and advice on how to improve it.

Track Your Happiness
“Track Your Happiness” was created by Harvard psychologist Matt Killingsworth while writing his doctoral dissertation.

Every day, at random times, the app asks you what you are doing, what you are thinking about, and whether you are happy. After 50 questions, you receive a personal happiness report.

Pacifica
Developed in San Francisco, this app was designed as an alternative to expensive psychotherapy sessions. Pacifica is primarily aimed at combating stress and anxiety. It helps you record and analyze your emotions, and offers two ways to use that information: by setting small personal goals or by using meditation to simply calm down.
