Julia Cameron’s “Morning Pages” Technique
“Morning Pages” is a writing technique by journalist and poet Julia Cameron, first introduced in her bestseller The Artist’s Way. This book is for anyone who wants to become more creative and unlock their inner potential.
The “Morning Pages” practice takes only 15–30 minutes of your time. You will need three sheets of paper and a pen.
The task is to fill these three pages with any text: write down everything that comes to mind — all your thoughts, feelings, worries, memories, just “pour” everything inside you onto the paper.
Remember: the text doesn’t have to be perfect, beautiful, or correct.
Allow yourself to not be the best and to do the exercise imperfectly; allow yourself to make mistakes, cross things out, write crookedly, write with your non-dominant hand, or not know what to write about at all. Express yourself in any form, write anything.
Cameron advises not to reread what you wrote. You can even throw these pages away afterward.
The author also recommends writing immediately after waking up, when you haven’t yet been pulled into daily tasks or work, but you can practice the exercise any time that suits you.
According to psychologists, any writing practice has a strong therapeutic effect, especially if you write by hand instead of typing on a device.
Benefits of “Morning Pages”:
