Quarantine in Ukraine extended until May 22. It is important to understand that this is a forced and necessary measure. Consider this time as an additional opportunity to engage in self-development, as a personal challenge: set goals and achieve them!
TV presenter, media trainer and personal brand expert Alina Solodka-Dolya specially for VITAGURU shared her list of inspiring books.

“I admit, I didn’t start reading more on quarantine, but I like that it’s possible to lie in a hug with a book anytime you want. For me, the usual norm is 2-3 books a month, more often I read non-fiction or business literature. During quarantine I try to devote time to fiction books, since I spend time outside the city, there is a large library that I have been collecting for years, but haven’t read everything yet, although I can’t do without motivational books, so I’m reading at the same time several at once in different genres” says Alina Solodka-Dolya.
According to Alina, quarantine is a great opportunity to reconsider your attitude to many things and understand how satisfied you are with your life.
“If yes, then continue to do what you are doing at the same pace. If not, you have something to think about. And if you don’t want to think and analyze, just read good books” Alina advises.
Top 7 books from Alina Solodka-Dolya:
- “When to say Yes” by marketer and business coach Lyudmila Kalabuha. First quarantined book I read. Thanks to her, I wanted to act and achieve my goals. There are so many inspiring stories about women who built a non-female business and succeeded in this, about men who climbed Everest and those who broke stereotypes and patterns in the name of their dreams. In this book, the lines of the fate of talented people intersect with the practical experience of entrepreneurs and experts from various fields of activity, which is 100% applicable in any profession. In addition, there is a chapter with my recommendations (page 251), where I shared my personal experience on how to behave in a situation where there is disrespect towards you. Recommend! This is a storehouse of useful information and tips that you need to take and implement.
- Edgar Poe “Compilation. Enchanted Castle” I read in the evenings for a tight sleep. I love the works of this writer, because I love mystery detectives. And the 18-19th century is saturated with esotericism: unique phenomena, real phenomena and inexplicable facts. If you are also interested in mysterious stories with an unexpected denouement, then any work f this writer will be to your taste. I think that at school we are unreasonably early acquainted with the texts of the author, because works and life of Edag Poe, is full of secrets, and a desire to unravel or understand them appears at a conscious age.
- “Grace: A Memoir” by Grace Codington. The author of the book is the fashion editor of American Vogue and the person whom the most important is trusted – content of the magazine, Anna Wintour. The story is about a girl from the English province who dreamed of high fashion. She stood at the origins of the first British Vogue, and then the American, and shared dinners and square meters with the greatest fashion photographers in the world! It’s hard to find so many backstage details about how events unfold behind the curtains of world podium and what happens in the fitting rooms of the best fashion houses. It’s also really interesting for me to “peep” at how creative personalities of such a scale generate content where they take ideas and chat over a cup of coffee with friends like Mario Testino or Calvin Klein.
- “How to talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere” by Larry King. The author is a mega-famous personality on American TV and CNN star, without modesty, is a legend man. I was fascinated by a very easy syllable, inspiring, bold moments of stories about how a young specialist dreamed of working on television and struggled for his dream, how people believed in him and how he was disappointed, there were some stories about curiosities on the air – my favorite part about work on TV. Each sentence can be taken as a quote and hung on refrigerator. The degree of motivation rolls over! “I want my work to be a joy to me. I do not want to make it seem like I’m working.”
- “Delivering Happiness” by Tony Hsieh is the first business book I cried over. When I read about people who fanatically love their job, it really touches me. Because I value qualities such as professionalism and dedication. The book is about how to build a business and lose it, and how to rise again from the bottom and start creating something great, and as a result achieve your goal. The main secret of a successful business or business that I discovered for myself through this book is to believe in my strength, surround myself with the same believers and think about the benefits that the product will bring to the consumer.
- “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Truman Capote is an easy book that reads in one go, in an hour or two. Just distract yourself and plunge into the story of America of the 40s and “listen” to the spicy stories of one charming girl who knew how to enjoy life.
- “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown is a book for those who can not stop on one thing and wants to have all at once. During reading, the perception of reality changes and there is a clear feeling of what goals are important and what remains outside the scope of priority. Moreover, I want to immediately concentrate on the most important and act. And you already know exactly what is important and what is not.
