Jeff Bezos' Life Principles That Helped Him Achieve Success
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and the wealthiest person in the world according to Forbes, has developed a set of life principles that helped him become a successful entrepreneur. These are simple yet crucial principles that anyone can apply to their own life.
Healthy Sleep
Jeff Bezos always emphasizes the importance of sleep. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he shared that he sleeps at least 8 hours a night, considering it the best remedy for stress and overwork.
Additionally, Bezos admitted that he doesn’t use an alarm clock and believes that waking up naturally is much better for the body.
Mornings are for Yourself and Family
Bezos believes that a successful day starts with a pleasant morning. Therefore, he never schedules important meetings or holds discussions in the morning. Instead, he prefers to spend this time with his family over a nice breakfast.
Work-Life Balance
Bezos adheres to the work-life balance concept: he opposes overtime work but avoids being distracted by “family” calls during office hours. Despite his hectic schedule, he always finds time for his family and loved ones.
“If I’m happy at home, it makes me a better employee and boss at work. If I’m in demand and productive at work, at home, I’m a more balanced and positive father and husband,” Bezos explains.
Avoiding Multitasking
Jeff Bezos is known for setting priorities and tackling tasks one by one, without trying to do everything at once. His main rule for work is to maintain maximum focus on each task, as multitasking reduces productivity.
Willingness to Take Risks
To start his business, Bezos quit his job. He once admitted that a book by Booker Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro, The Remains of the Day, about a butler reflecting on his life, motivated him to take the leap.
“I thought that when I’m 80, I’ll regret not having taken the risk. Even if I failed, I would despise myself less for taking the risk than for not having tried,” Bezos said.
New Ventures
Bezos never stops at what he’s already achieved: he’s always coming up with new projects. And he always asks himself one question: “Why not?”
In 2000, he founded the private aerospace company Blue Origin, which focuses on developing space technology and space tourism (long before Elon Musk’s SpaceX). In 2013, Bezos purchased the American daily newspaper The Washington Post, one of the oldest and most influential publications in the United States.
Hobbies
The entrepreneur has many interesting hobbies. One of them is collecting NASA space vehicle debris from the ocean floor. Along with his team, Bezos uses submarines to find rockets that separate from space shuttles during flights (for safety reasons, this happens over the ocean).
