Scientifically Proven: Cardio Workouts Prolong Life!
Cardio workouts are among the most effective forms of physical activity. They enhance endurance, strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular and respiratory function, and boost metabolism.
Common cardio exercises include running, cycling, walking, Nordic walking, jump rope, swimming, aqua aerobics, step aerobics, CrossFit, and workouts on elliptical and rowing machines.
The minimum recommended duration for a cardio session is 30 minutes. To maintain overall health, 3–4 workouts per week are sufficient. However, consistency and regularity are crucial, along with a balanced diet.
Numerous studies confirm that cardio workouts contribute to longevity.
For example, researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern conducted a study with 54 adults, dividing them into two groups. One group ran 4–5 times a week for two years, while the other participated in yoga and balance training just as frequently. By the end of the study, the runners’ hearts were in significantly better condition—comparable to those of much younger individuals.
Cardio workouts also reduce the risk of dementia.
A study from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden found that middle-aged women who regularly engage in aerobic exercise have an 88% lower risk of developing dementia in old age compared to their less active peers.
Additionally, research confirms that cardio workouts help prevent age-related cognitive decline, improve skin condition, and reduce symptoms of depression.
Previous studies have also demonstrated that running extends life. According to one experiment, individuals who run regularly have a 30% lower risk of death overall and a 45% lower risk of death from cardiovascular diseases.
Moreover, long-distance running is not necessary. Just 5–10 minutes of slow, comfortable jogging can be enough—the key is consistency.
