Plants that purify air
In rooms where we spend most time, there are often substances that can adversely affect our health. To avoid harm, the air must be cleaned. Science has come up with many different gadgets that can clean the air, but home plants can also be good helpers in this matter.
When opening windows in order to let fresh air into the house, we often achieve the opposite effect, especially if you live in a big city near the roadway. But it is difficult to do without an open window, therefore, to neutralize the toxins entering the house from the street, it is worth getting some plants that clean the air.
The most efficient plants are used to filter space stations and are recommended by NASA’s National Space Agency.
Geranium

Some indoor plants that purify the air in the apartment can additionally neutralize pathogens and viruses. These plants are called antiseptics, and they really can disinfect the air. In particular, geranium (or pelargonium) releases volatile compounds into the air, which kill viruses and bacteria. Many do not like the particular smell of geranium, but the stronger it is, the more phytoncides are released into the atmosphere. In addition, this aroma relaxes and relieves irritability, is able to eliminate headaches. When the geranium blooms, it is able to decorate any corner in the house. This plant is quite unpretentious, loves the sun and plentiful watering. Experts recommend placing geraniums in the kitchen or children’s room.
Chlorophytum

It is believed that this home plant cleans the air and prevents allergic reactions to dust. Chlorophytum removes formaldehyde fumes and neutralizes harmful traffic fumes.
At first glance, chlorophytum is quite ordinary, its leaves are thin and long, unremarkable. Though there are several decorative varieties of this plant that purifies the air in the apartment, but ordinary chlorophytum with completely green leaves is still considered the leader in cleaning. One of the main advantages is absolute unpretentiousness and rapid growth, moderate need for watering and the ability to survive in almost any conditions.
Spathiphyllum
There are at least two reasons to pay attention to spathiphyllum. Firstly, spathiphyllum is very pretty, its flowers resemble Calla Lilies. Secondly, this domestic plant purifies the air and neutralizes the pollution that is released from paint coatings (formaldehyde, trichlorethylene, benzene and many others). The cleaning process involves not only the broad leaves of the plant, but also its flowers, which are able to remove mold spores from the air. Spathiphyllum is recommended to be placed in a room with high humidity to prevent the appearance and spread of mold – this is a favorable environment for the flower. Abundant watering and lack of bright light are recommended.
Chamaedorea
A small palm tree, Chamaedorea, which is also often called bamboo palm, usually reaches 1.5-2 meters and can decorate any interior. The larger the plant, the better it copes with air purification. Chamaedorea palm tree loves abundant watering, its soil should always be moist. Due to the use of large amounts of water, it very well moisturizes the air in the room, so it is suitable for those rooms in which it is constantly dry. In addition, the chamedorea palm tree neutralizes toxins that can be released from plastic furniture and products.
Ficus

There are many varieties of ficuses, but two varieties are considered the most effective: Ficus Benjamina (with a large number of small green leaves) and Ficus Elastica (rubbery ficus, with a large dense dark green leaves). In the warm spring and summer, it is recommended to take adult plants out into the air. But if the ficus is still young, it is better to keep it indoors, away from the wind and drafts. These flowers love the sun and moderate watering.
