Marie Kondo's Magical Tidying Up — Key Principles for a Tidy Home and Life
Marie Kondo is a world-renowned tidying consultant and the author of the bestselling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.”
Her KonMari Method has helped people across the globe not only declutter their homes but also find clarity and calm in their lives. The approach is built on mindfulness and joy — keeping only what truly matters.
The core idea: Keep only what sparks joy. If an item doesn’t spark joy, thank it for its service and let it go.

5 Key Principles of the KonMari Method
-
Visualize your ideal life.
Before you tidy, imagine what your ideal life looks like and how your space should support it. What do you want to achieve? -
Sort by category, not by location.
Start with clothes, then books, papers, miscellaneous items, and finally sentimental items. -
Keep only what sparks joy.
Hold each item and ask, “Does this spark joy?” If not — thank it and part with it. -
Tidy in a specific order.
Follow the order: clothes → books → papers → miscellaneous → sentimental. Complete each category fully before moving on. -
Give every item a home.
Once you’ve chosen what to keep, assign a designated place for each item to maintain lasting order.
